Due to jump as Rosehill Race 6 at 3:50pm (AEDT) on The BMW Day, this season’s $500,000 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) features a capacity field of 14 starters and three emergencies.

Sitting top of the latest Vinery Stud Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.50 for the win is narrow favourite Jameka on the quick back-up.

Winner of the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) in Melbourne last spring, the Ciaron Maher-trained daughter of Myboycharlie has had three runs this campaign.

The last two of those were in Group 1 company against the boys for an Australian Guineas fifth over the mile and her eye-catching third behind Tarzino in last Saturday’s Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m).

She races on successive Saturday in the Vinery Stud Stakes then over the same track and distance and is drawn a treat in barrier one with dual winning hoop in the race Damien Oliver retaining the ride.

Hot on her heels in the Vinery Stud Stakes betting markets this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival at $3.70 is the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Risque, formerly prepared in New Zealand where she won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in November.

The Darci Brahma three-year-old won on debut in Australia taking out the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) before her third in the Australian Guineas to Palentino on March 5.

With the freshen-up between runs she looks every chance of seeing out Saturday’s step up in metres from an ideal barrier two draw shooting for her fifth win from nine career starts.

What else do the bookies fancy? No other confirmed runner is at single-figures. The first emergency Happy Hannah however is the danger at $5.50 should she get a run for Peter & Paul Snowden.

A lightly-raced daughter of More Than Ready she is two-from-four to date in non-stakes’ company but is well supported to handle the Group 1 should she run on the weekend after good recent form.

So will the top two in betting heading into the 2016 Australian Oaks salute or is there value further down the Vinery Stud Stakes markets from the likes of Risque’s stablemate Stay With Me ($11), or the two Kiwi raiders coming off NZ Derby runs Valley Girl ($11) and Capella ($11) both on debut down under?

1st

#5 Risque ($3.70)

Not sure if Risque could beat Jameka in the Oaks over 2400m, but over 2000m with the freshness edge think she might be able to get past her here. Barrier two is ideal, her two runs in Australia to date have been very good and she’s got class. Get on her now before she firms.

2nd

#1 Jameka ($3.50)

If Jameka handles the quick back-up, she’s the one to beat from the rails. Oliver will give her the right ride from the inside and she was very good in the Guineas last Saturday at the same track and distance. She could be needing the extra metres, but back against her own kind here she should still be flying late.

3rd

#4 Honesta ($16)

Seems a silly price on offer for John Thompson’s Monaco Consul grey who was runner-up to Jameka in the VRC Oaks in the spring. She was also runner-up in a further three races last prep including Sydney’s Flight Stakes over a mile. This time in she’s had two unplaced runs, but getting up to 2000m here third-up she’ll be peaking and only needs a touch of luck from the barrier (12).
